Job Interview

Oni wat nyaa de mitie kroja nai urah wat tih bih?

I've had the privilege (or unluckyness) of being able to personally interview people who get to work in my section. There've been many different types of people and personalities that  I've encountered but I have got to tell you that there are just people who deliberately wanna get on your nerves. In the end, I find that the most important thing to realize when interviewing someone is actually the things that they openly and sincerely say to you. It's not the certificates or the experience. Simply more towards words and expressions that comes out of them when you ask them things. But for now, this is the type of people I watch out for the MOST during interviews:

An Interview with People Who Are Clueless

One thing I don't like about certain job applicants (a few of them so far) are those who don't really measure up to the things that they say they know, but even worse is people who BELIEVE that what they have is equivalent to what they THINK they have. Here's an interview scenario to explain what I mean:

Me:       What are your academic qualification (I already know, but simply to pull someone's socks. Haha)

Idiot:      I have a diploma in computers

Wow! The job vacancy is for a form 5 leaver and I got a diploma holder applying for it. But wait, something started to smell really fishy about this because in the Job Form, the person filled in that he/she studied only until form 5, and I was already browsing through his/her certificates and there was no diploma in there

Me:      A diploma, eh? This means you are actually overqualified for this post.

Idiot:    I can still apply as just using my form 5 right?

Me:      I guess so (being courteous). But which uni or college did you get your diploma from?

Idiot:    Uni? College? Oh? My diploma...erm...I got from Institut Komputer Cemerlang.

Me:      Huh?

So honest to God, by this point I was flipping through the certs and tadaa, there it was...the computer 'diplomae' in 'MS Excel', 'MS Word' and 'MS Powerpoint' awarded by Institut Komputer Cemerlang Sdn. Bhd. located at shoplot somewhere in town. The best part was, this person was deemed EXCELLENT! Wow, good for you...but I felt like I was part of an April Fool's joke.

This person was SERIOUS about the actually graduating with a diploma. But why did he/she applied for a form 5 if he/she believed that he's/she's a diploma graduate?

Me:       Oh ok...(after I saw the cert) erm...great.

Idiot:     ....

Me:      Why haven't you applied for a job more suitable to your 'academic' level, then?

Idiot:    Oh, I have...but they never call me up for interviews. So I decided to just apply Form 5 level jobs.

Me:      OIC...(But in my mind I was like OMG!!!! You seriously believe you're a graduate????!!!)

Idiot:    .... (when I type "...." it means the person is staring at me like a lost puppy)

Me:     Oooooooo...k...I think we're done for today...

Idiot:   .... ..... .... .....

Me:     So...erm...we will call you within 2 or 3 days to notify you if you got the job.

Idiot:   .... .... you mean I haven't got it?

Me:    Huh? Erm....we'll decide on that after the HR Dept. and myself finalize ALL the candidates.

Sounds like I've interviewed a lot of poeple? Well, actually I've only interviewed 2 including this one and right now, I think the other guy just got the job!

Idiot:   .... Ok then... just to remind you, if you give me the job, you're actually lucky.

Me:   (blink...blink...)

Idiot:   Coz even though I have a diploma, I'm willing to work for a post that requires a lower academic qualification...you'll be lucky coz you'll have a diploma holder working with you for a lower salary. ....

Diploma my a**!!! You're lucky I didn't make you put together a CPU in front of other ACTUAL computer science grads.

But maybe I can recommend this person to the IT Department?

Note: All names of persons or intitutions mentioned have been altered to protect the privacy of others.

Suria Perkasa Hitam a.k.a. Kesatria Baja Hitam a.k.a. Kamen Rider Black

Oni wat sirita tih doik obuok tayang? Many many years ago, when I was still a phlemy kid (budak ingusan la...) there was this one television show that somehow brainwashed the minds of almost every boy in my primary school. I'm gonna need the help of my fellow friends and readers to help me re-trace the steps of this television show, coz to be honest, the storyline was the last thing on my mind when I watched it.

Bidayuh Music?!!

Oni wat ya nai muzik Bidoyoh? Traditional Bidayuh Instruments One day, I saw a discussion on Facebook between some friends that was about Bidayuh MUSIC. I couldn't remember as to whether the discussion was about holding a competition for Bidayuh music or organizing some sort of Bidayuh music festival. Not so sure which one was it. But let me just ask this question; what exactly do you mean by Bidayuh 'music'?. For all I know, Bidayuh music that I have been exposed since I was a kid was those that involve an entire ensemble of gongs (tawak, kita'ak, pidabat and etc...). So when I read this discussion, it was odd for me to think that we would try to ask our modern songwriters to write new music from this type of ensemble. I was once told by village elders that to each kampung, their musical arrangement for this ensemble is different. So the beats played by the group from Grogo, will definitely differ from those who hail from Singgai, Pedawan or Serian.
