The Journey of Projek Tri-Gasi

Oni wat oku doik tapod suwak do bala de muti?

Having a nice public holiday everyone? Well, I hope you all are. This morning I was finally able to browse through the Facebook group page for the band Projek Tri-Gasi. I recommend fellow readers to try and listen to one of their songs in The Bidayuh Daily Issues Facebook group. The song's entitled Pimonu (The Journey). I've tried to attach the song directly to this post but somehow it wouldn't load. However, you can just click on the aforementioned song title and the it'll redirect you to the that page.

Projek Tri-Gasi consists of 7 members (if I'm not mistaken, coz I think I've lost count, hahaha) and they are friends of mine; people whom I have known for a large part of my life, and people who share many similar aspirations as myself. I am proud that they have grouped together and merge their talents and creativity to create musical fusion. They finally decided to do this...thank goodness.

When they defined themselves as an experimental band; they were absolutely right, especially in creating instrumentals that merge both modern and Dayak instruments. As you don't have lyrics to guide through any verses, choruses and phrases; creating Dayak instrumental music with the fusion of both modern and traditional elements, is a hugely difficult task . But traditionally, Dayak music never any lyrics, right? So it fits the mould of stamping a strong sense of ethnic identity to their music, which I think is a good and honest thing.

So guys, if you are reading this, do continue with this project band - coz I really believe it can help elevate the masses about your art. Because the music you have made is yours and for everyone to appreciate and enjoy. Nai lagik bogo-bogo lagu yoh! Lawai, Bob, Tom - a job well done.

And oh, Luckily I didn't forget, the band is trying their luck in the Bidayuh Battle of the Bands this weekend @ Kampung Skio on Sunday, 24th September 2011 at 7.30 pm. So if you are curious about them and their music, do watch them perform. By the time I'm writing this; and by the last time I read the updates on their  page - they've made it to the finals...so I do hope and pray that with God's grace..they can really go all the way. But the most important thing is - they rock the house!

Show them what you got bros!! Bring someone to record it for all to see (especially me la), what you will experience is a memory you have to keep in celluloid. By the way, is Roy in the band???? Yoh kan bakal jadi movie producer...kan? If he's not part of the band, he can record it..but the question is, "Is he back from KL yet?" Hahahaha.

Bye for now friends, wish I could be at Kampung Skio tonight and support you all. My well wishes and best of luck to you guys!

Suria Perkasa Hitam a.k.a. Kesatria Baja Hitam a.k.a. Kamen Rider Black

Oni wat sirita tih doik obuok tayang? Many many years ago, when I was still a phlemy kid (budak ingusan la...) there was this one television show that somehow brainwashed the minds of almost every boy in my primary school. I'm gonna need the help of my fellow friends and readers to help me re-trace the steps of this television show, coz to be honest, the storyline was the last thing on my mind when I watched it. Tapi dalam aku cuba mengelak untuk ambil tauk pasal storyline cerita tok...masih juak aku dapat ingat dengan samar-samar apa sedang dilalui hero ya. Cerita nok aku maksudkan adalah....jeng jeng jeng! Nangga video tok dulok...jelmakan semula zaman gembira kanak-kanak anda! Henshin!!! Suria...Perkasa...Hitam!!!!!! Persoalan Minda: Aku heran dengan nama hero tok versi Indon ya - Kesatria Baja Hitam. Apa sebenarnya maksud 'baja' ya? Macam ne nama Kamen Rider Black, boleh ter'translate' kepada Kesatria  Baja Hitam? 'Kesatria' dan 'hitam' ya ...

Green Green River

Oni wat orud tih ponu tun duh? Tebas! Tebas! Jangan tak tebas!!! You must be wondering why on Earth did we try to manouvre a boat over grassland? Well, the problem is not that the boat is on land, it's actually coz the 'land' is invading the river! The lush greenery that you are seeing now is actually a river! This was I think one of the quirkiest field scenarios I've ever encountered in my career and it took place sometime in mid-2009 (dah lama dah...tapi coz nya interesting, aku post jak), it was actually suppose to be a riverine survey along the Karap River, a tributary of the Bakong & Baram River. Instead of actually surveying anything, all we did was try to get through all the vegetation. And here's the picture taken prior to the one above for to prove it! OMG!!!! What did we just get ourselves into... By the time we saw all those keladi-keladi buntings we already crying out, "Oh s**t!" and we were already regretting the trip was ...

Bidayuh Music?!!

Oni wat ya nai muzik Bidoyoh? Traditional Bidayuh Instruments One day, I saw a discussion on Facebook between some friends that was about Bidayuh MUSIC. I couldn't remember as to whether the discussion was about holding a competition for Bidayuh music or organizing some sort of Bidayuh music festival. Not so sure which one was it. But let me just ask this question; what exactly do you mean by Bidayuh 'music'?. For all I know, Bidayuh music that I have been exposed since I was a kid was those that involve an entire ensemble of gongs (tawak, kita'ak, pidabat and etc...). So when I read this discussion, it was odd for me to think that we would try to ask our modern songwriters to write new music from this type of ensemble. I was once told by village elders that to each kampung, their musical arrangement for this ensemble is different. So the beats played by the group from Grogo, will definitely differ from those who hail from Singgai, Pedawan or Serian. ...
