Sabbatical Over

Oni wat blog oku tih obuoh togan tian tian tih?

Wow, I can't believe that I have left this blog for almost half a year. I wonder if anyone ever wondered where I've been. I haven't been anywhere really, just been in Miri, and then just recently I went back to Bau for the Gawai celebrations. Meet up with a couple of friends but most important of all spent some quality time with my family back home. Truthfully, a lot of things did happen, but I just didn't have that desire to write about them. I did try to write, but every time I face my blog page's post section..I just didn't know what I wanted to write about.

Talk about a writer's block. Really, this one was worse, I didn't even felt like I wanted to read...or even look at words. It must be a sort of disorder that happens when you try to squeeze your brain in the search for ideas. Afterwards, when I leave the blog page, I suddenly felt like I had so many things to talk and write about. Things about life, history, music (and the arts), science, economics and yes, even politics. I used to make fun of the Borneo Post and these days when I read it, I still feel like I wanna make fun of them, coz they seem to be writing more worthless articles as election looms over the horizon. I wondered why I never did it.

Was it like fighting a lost cause? But I never had a cause to fight for in the first place. I just wanted to take sarcasm of things that happen around me to the highest level. If there was any kind of cause for me to fight for, it would probably be that...and then I realized it was. I just needed a kick in the arse to kickstart writing again. And so here I am boys and girls..back in my element. You know, even ol' Pep Guardiola neeeds a break from football. So I guess writers need a break from writing? Probably....

So to make everyone's life easy, I'm gonna make a commitment to write an article, even if it's just a simple one...every Thursday but if I ever take a  break from it, it's gonna be pre-informed when the break starts and stops so that no one gets dissapointed and so that no one thinks I've lost my mind. That means, each time a Naruto or Bleach scanlation comes out in Mangareader...hahaha I'm gonna post an article as well. So it could be about anything but that's probably the best part about it right? So come join my road trip once again of texticular (sounds obscene doesn't it) cacophony.

See ya this Thursday folks!

Suria Perkasa Hitam a.k.a. Kesatria Baja Hitam a.k.a. Kamen Rider Black

Oni wat sirita tih doik obuok tayang? Many many years ago, when I was still a phlemy kid (budak ingusan la...) there was this one television show that somehow brainwashed the minds of almost every boy in my primary school. I'm gonna need the help of my fellow friends and readers to help me re-trace the steps of this television show, coz to be honest, the storyline was the last thing on my mind when I watched it. Tapi dalam aku cuba mengelak untuk ambil tauk pasal storyline cerita tok...masih juak aku dapat ingat dengan samar-samar apa sedang dilalui hero ya. Cerita nok aku maksudkan adalah....jeng jeng jeng! Nangga video tok dulok...jelmakan semula zaman gembira kanak-kanak anda! Henshin!!! Suria...Perkasa...Hitam!!!!!! Persoalan Minda: Aku heran dengan nama hero tok versi Indon ya - Kesatria Baja Hitam. Apa sebenarnya maksud 'baja' ya? Macam ne nama Kamen Rider Black, boleh ter'translate' kepada Kesatria  Baja Hitam? 'Kesatria' dan 'hitam' ya ...

Green Green River

Oni wat orud tih ponu tun duh? Tebas! Tebas! Jangan tak tebas!!! You must be wondering why on Earth did we try to manouvre a boat over grassland? Well, the problem is not that the boat is on land, it's actually coz the 'land' is invading the river! The lush greenery that you are seeing now is actually a river! This was I think one of the quirkiest field scenarios I've ever encountered in my career and it took place sometime in mid-2009 (dah lama dah...tapi coz nya interesting, aku post jak), it was actually suppose to be a riverine survey along the Karap River, a tributary of the Bakong & Baram River. Instead of actually surveying anything, all we did was try to get through all the vegetation. And here's the picture taken prior to the one above for to prove it! OMG!!!! What did we just get ourselves into... By the time we saw all those keladi-keladi buntings we already crying out, "Oh s**t!" and we were already regretting the trip was ...

Bidayuh Music?!!

Oni wat ya nai muzik Bidoyoh? Traditional Bidayuh Instruments One day, I saw a discussion on Facebook between some friends that was about Bidayuh MUSIC. I couldn't remember as to whether the discussion was about holding a competition for Bidayuh music or organizing some sort of Bidayuh music festival. Not so sure which one was it. But let me just ask this question; what exactly do you mean by Bidayuh 'music'?. For all I know, Bidayuh music that I have been exposed since I was a kid was those that involve an entire ensemble of gongs (tawak, kita'ak, pidabat and etc...). So when I read this discussion, it was odd for me to think that we would try to ask our modern songwriters to write new music from this type of ensemble. I was once told by village elders that to each kampung, their musical arrangement for this ensemble is different. So the beats played by the group from Grogo, will definitely differ from those who hail from Singgai, Pedawan or Serian. ...
