Oni wat susah jadi penyokong bih?
Sorry fellow readers for not being able to update this blog weekly, but I've pretty tied up with so much official stuff lately. But hopefully I can give some retribution to my fellow readers with additional articles even if it's just a small one from now.
This week, the stuff that has actually been going on for the past 3 weeks and that is, the Barclay's Premier League. Finally, I have something to watch on the tele. Not just because the season has started but also coz I've finally subscribed to Astro's Sports Pack. Hahahaha. If not, I'd keep SMSing my sister in Johore about the results of Liverpool's games in the league.
And honestly, for Liverpool; the start of the season hasn't been great. Did I regret subscribing the sports pack now? NOPE! Watching Liverpool play with the crop of players they have now, is well, they're not playing badly, in fact I think they played quite well - compared to the time of Woy Hodgson (did I just said Woy?). But, it's not that they are playing 'better' football...for me, it's them playing the type of football they're supposed to play. But they just needed to be sharper at the final yard. Off the field, they were guilty of not getting a replacement on time to replace Andy Carol (did I just typed Carol?). So I guess we're paying for that mistake right now coz I dun see the goals flowing.
The ball is constantly played all the way to the enemy territory but in the end everything is either misfired or intercepted. But I'm no football specialist, but I hope Rodgers...and I hope he is better than Woy. Dalglish was never really meant to manage it beyond the one season he was in charge. Tactically, I think he may not be able to take on most other managers in the Premiership coz he's been out of management for so long. But a Carling Cup and an FA Cup final is not too shabby for someone who was there to patch the leaks.
Right now, with Rodgers - its back to square one for everything. Tactics, gameplay, training, player selection - everything is started over from a new slate. That is not something that many teams in this era is willing to do without the influx of big money spending. Liverpool right now, is not really in a healthy state of finances, well its not crashing...but they realize that they have to buy smarter. Man. City and Chelsea can afford to splash money around. Personally, I think only Manchester United and Arsenal is the best team in terms of long term financial and management and manpower management. Everyone else whose top gun in the league is just buying players for over the top price simply because they can.
Liverpool did the same thing when Dalglish was around, but Dalglish came ad-hoc to stop the rot brought down on us by Woy, Hicks & Gillette. The Fenway Sports Group (FSG) came in, immediately whacked Woy, and Dalglish was the immediate emergency team to revive Liverpool ASAP. With whatever money they had, they threw at Dalglish to buy something to strengthen a weak squad. Here, its just obvious that Dalglish also had a weakness, his buys turned out to be bad additions to the squad...maybe not disastrous, but just inaffective. So now Rodgers is in charge. As a Reds fan, what do I see as the positives from his appointment
1. He's got a philosophy - I can see that he is more aware about what particular kind of team Liverpool needs to be. Something that I didn't notice any Liverpool manager after Benitez had.
2. He's young - unlike AVB, I find Rodgers to be less hyped about...and although he hasn't really won anything yet, he has more conviction on what he wants to build at Liverpool.
So, he's not really a bad appointment...and although we lost the game to Arsenal and drew with Man. City, they main reason we conceded goals were from mistakes generated from the individual errors of players. I hope those things can become lessons for the squad. There's a lot of potential from the game. I do think that since Man. Utd. are now more target oriented and are less interested to play stylized football. But it's not that Liverpool isn't targeting anything, it's just that - well, Liverpool used to play great football. Somehow that was lost after the McManaman & Fowler era. we should get that football back, because I think that is WHO we really are. But we can't afford to continue being punished for sloppy individual mistakes and bad shots on target. Better get your groove on team! Coz we need to be on the opposite side of the table we're at now come season's end. It's neccessary.
However, for me, right now, this is life being a Liverpool FC fan. Just gotta keep our heads high through all of this. But for the first time in many many many years..I have a Liverpool team that plays in a way I can cheer for and root for even when the cards are stacked against them. When they lose, it's a bitter pill to swallow, but at least I believe and can see that they played some good football. Coz, hopefully, we'll be able to play both awesome football and won trophies. Is that just to much to ask? Hahahaha.
